At Miele Manufacturing, we are committed to being a good corporate citizen. Monthly we donate money to nonprofits through the Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving program to give back to strengthen our communities. In May 2021, we donate $90,900.00 to a variety of of organizations such as:
The Cover Hill Volunteer Fire Company, of Johnstown, received a $7,000 donation to purchase thermal imaging cameras, New York roof hooks in three lengths, and a 60-minute SCBA bottle. The equipment will be used by the RIT team and at fires and rescues the fire company may respond to. The Cover Hill Volunteer Fire Company provides fire and rescue services to Cambria and northern Somerset counties. The Cumberland County Library System Foundation received an $800 donation from Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving to support its Tails and Tales Summer Learning Program. The program is a series of free events and activities designed to foster a love of reading and develop or enhance reading, writing, and learning skill for children and teens. The program featured different activities such as reading to dogs, learning about different animals, drawing, and outdoor reading sessions in addition too much more. The county library system provides programs, services, and innovative initiatives to its eight member libraries including those in Mt. Holly Springs, Carlisle, Shippensburg, Enola, Camp Hill, Newville, New Cumberland, and Mechanicsburg.
Elizabeth Township Fire Dept. #1, of Buena Vista, received a $10,000 donation to upgrade equipment to provide better emergency services to Elizabeth Township; Elizabeth, Versallies, Lincoln and Liberty boroughs; and Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. The equipment will be used to provide better rehab to responders on emergency incidents and training. The fire department provides fire, rescue, and emergency medical services in addition to firefighter rehab, emergency education, and CPR and first aid training.
The Nisbet Volunteer Fire Company (VFC) received a $10,000 grant from Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving. Due to the pandemic, the VFC has been unable to hold fundraising events causing a shortage in their budget. Seeking to provide better equipment for their volunteers, the fire company plans to use their donation to purchase fire protection equipment to protect against hazardous elements and blood borne and airborne pathogens. The mission of the Nisbet Volunteer Fire Company is to serve the needs in their community and surround areas with pride, dedication, and excellence. They strive to deliver quality emergency life safety services with the highest level of integrity, commitment, teamwork, and community engagement to Nisbet, Armstrong, Bastress, DuBoistown, and South Williamsport. Ed Myers, Treasurer, accepts a $5,000 donation from Pennsylvania Skill Charitable Giving on behalf of the Portage Volunteer Fire Company. The Portage VFC operates seven fire and rescue vehicles to provide a full range of emergency services including fire, brush fire, vehicle and water rescues, and hazardous materials response to Portage and Cambria, Bedford, and Blair counties. The donation will be used to help defray the cost of upgrading insulation in the apparatus room in the fire station and replace an electric hot water boiler with a new high-efficiency propane-fueled furnace.
The Unityville Community Volunteer Fire Company received a $10,000 donation to replace outdated and no longer serviceable S.C.B.A., a breathing apparatus used when entering burning buildings. The fire company provides fire and rescue services to Unityville in addition to Benton, Millville, Lairdsville, and Lycoming County. Vigilant Hose Co. #1 of Port Vue received a $10,000 donation to start a rescue diver’s program and will pay for training for members to receive open water certification as well as equipment needed for the program. Vigilant Hose Co. #1 provides volunteer fire and rescue services to Port Vue and 10 surrounding municipalities.
